Jubin Nautiyal And Prakriti Kakar’s New Mixtape Song Meshes Two AR Rahman Tracks Together

Jubin Nautiyal and Prakriti Kakar’s new Mixtape song meshes two AR Rahman tracks together

The Mixtape series from T-Series, which is its own take on the Coke Studio concept is back, and this time it’s Jubin Nautiyal and Prakriti Kakar’s turn to mesmerize us with their amazing voices. The duo, along with Abhijit Vaghani, have chosen to do a medley of two AR Rahman songs.

The first one is Agar Tum Saath Ho from Imtiaz Ali’s 2015 drama Tamasha and the other one is Maahi Ve from the same director’s Highway. Both the songs mix together effortlessly not just because they have similar dreamy moods going for them, but also due to the clever musical arrangement for song.

This Mixtape song starts off by setting a romantic atmosphere with its soft music. The vocals are kicked off by Prakriti with the bridge portion of Agar Tum Saath Ho. It’s a clever decision as it adds a touch of uncertainty to the entire song, not letting you guess what’ll be coming next.

The song then brilliantly transitions to the chorus of Maahi Ve, and the vocal duties are taken over by Jubin Nautiyal who quickly hands them over to Abhijit Vaghani who hits the nail on the head with his superb rendition of the Maahi Ve part. An excellent sarangi piece played by Afzal Ali Khan plays a huge role in the song. And so does the piano by Gaurav Vaswani.

The best thing about this Mixtape song is that it comes incredibly close to creating the same moods as those of the original songs. And not a thing sounds out of place, including the voices of the two singers. It’s certainly an effort that could make even AR Rahman proud.

But coming to the only problem I had with this one, it’s the fact that this performance is made to look like it’s been shot live, but it’s actually not. Coke Studio made a name for itself mostly because people know what they are seeing is actually being recorded at the time. As opposed to that, Mixtape has the musicians and singers playing over the pre-recorded track, complete with autotune applied to their voices.

Anyway, what matters is that the song is definitely listen-worthy. Give it go and tell us what you think.
