There was a time in Bollywood when Rishi Kapoor and Neetu Singh or Amitabh Bachchan and Rekha or Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol or Ranbir Kapoor and Deepika Padukone to name a few, were considered the hit jodis and they were paired in many films together but things have changed in the last few years and filmmakers are experimenting with unusual pairings in their films.
Take for example the unusual jodi of Shah Rukh Khan and Alia Bhatt in Dear Zindagi. Alia who is more than half of SRK’s age played the lead opposite SRK in the film.Surprisingly, neither of them seemed a misfit as a cast in the film. That’s probably because the content of the film was such that one didn’t feel the pairing was odd. That SRK at 54 is still fit and romancing heroines half his age is a different story!
2017 saw many new pairs like Akshay Kumar and Bhumi Pednekar in Toilet: Ek Prem Katha, Shah Rukh Khan and Mahira Khan in Raees, Kriti Sanon and Ayushmann Khurrana in Bareilly Ki Barfi, Hrithik Roshan and Yami Gautam in Kaabil etc.

2018 too has an interesting line up of fresh pairs to look forward too. Fans are waiting to watch Anushka Sharma post her much talked about wedding and it will be a nice change to see her paired with actor Varun Dhawan in Sharat Kataria’s Sui Dhaaga: Made in India.
Alia Bhat and Vicky Kaushal
Alia Bhat and Vicky Kaushal will be seen together for the first time in Meghna Gulzar’s Raazi which is an adaptation of a book named Calling Sehmat. Alia plays a Kashmiri girl while Vicky will be playing an army officer.
Akshay Kumar and Mouni Roy
Reema Kagti’s Gold will see Akshay Kumar paired up with TV actress Mouni Roy who will be making her Bollywood debut. The film is about the post-Independence period and it will be interesting to watch Mouni do something different from her Naagin roles!
Jacqueline Fernandez and Sushant Singh Rajput
Jacqueline Fernandez will be seen sharing screen space with Sushant Singh Rajput in Tarun Mansukhani’s Drive. The film is set to release this Holi.
Shraddha Kapoor and Prabhas
It will be interesting to watch Prabhas romance Shraddha Kapoor in Saaho, which is said to be a futuristic action film. During the interview for Haseena Parkar, Shraddha had told HFT that Prabhas takes good care of her when they shoot in his hometown and always has a lavish spread when it comes to food. The two seem to be getting along well.
Rakul Preet and Siddharth Malhotra
Actress Rakul Preet will be seen on screen after a break of 3 years post-Yaariyaan, in Neeraj Pandey’s Aiyaary. The film is said to be a mentor protégée story and stars Siddharth Malhotra along with Rakul as the main lead. This is the first time the two have come together for a film.
Rajkummar Rao and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan
Another interesting jodi to look out for will be Rajkummar Rao and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan in Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra’s Fanney Khan and Sanjay Dutt and Chitrangda Singh in Saheb Biwi Aur Gangster 3.
Fresh pairs bring about a certain kind of freshness to a film and with the change in Bollywood cinema where more content based films are being churned out, we hope to see more such interesting pairs in the future.
Which is the jodi that you would love to watch on screen? Do write back and let us know.
