Love Chicken 65? So do I! Delicious isn’t it? For a very long time, I always thought that Chicken 65 originated from China since it almost looks like Manchurian until my friend from Chennai fiercely debated that it’s origins are Chennai! That’s when I started reading up about it and also discovered the different theories about how the Chicken 65 got its name. Sharing it here with you

It was Chennai’s famous Chef, A.M. Buhari who was responsible for introducing the Chicken 65 in India in 1965 at his restaurant called Buhari Hotel. It is also said that it is so named because it was the 65th item on the soldier’s’ menu list!

Interestingly, the first theory is that Buhari got the idea for such a dish when India was at war against Pakistan. Apparently, he wanted to serve the soldiers some delicious non-vegetarian food and that’s how Chicken 65 was born.

Another theory is that Chicken 65 was so called because 65 small pieces of chicken were used to prepare the chicken dish!

Some theories even say that 65 ingredients were used to prepare the dish and the chicken was cut into 65 pieces to make the yummy Chicken 65!

Another states that the chicken needs to be marinaded for 65 days so the name!

The strangest theory, however, is that a 65-day-old chicken was used to prepare the dish! Imagine the ordeal of the staff running around to source 65-day old chickens!

The most believable and accepted theory is the one that the about Buhari naming it so since it was made in 1965.

Whatever the theory, whatever the story, Chicken 65 is a gastronomical delight! Period!
