Peanut Butter or Nutella which is Healthier? I personally like both and the comparison between the two can’t be easy taste wise. Yes, nutrition wise and facts wise we can make a comparison. But first, understand what the two products are
What’s In Nutella?

Nutella is a popular Italian hazelnut with Hazelnuts as the primary ingredient. The popular Ingredients as listed on the label include – SUGAR, modified palm oil, hazelnuts, cocoa, skim milk, reduced minerals whey (from milk), soy lecithin: an emulsifier, vanillin: an ARTIFICIAL flavor.
If you analyze the ingredients minutely you’ll come to know that Nutella is virtually a sugar spread. It also has Palm oil which is associated to have highest saturated fats. These saturated fats increase ‘LDL’ cholesterol, the bad cholesterol that increases risk for heart disease.
What’s in Peanut Butter?

Check the labels and you’ll see ingredients listed as – Roasted peanuts, corn maltodextrin, sugar, soybean oil, hydrogenated vegetable oil, and salt.
Peanuts, the main ingredient of this product are an excellent source of protein and healthy, unsaturated fats. The maltodextrin is a food additive that helps improve shelf life, the mouth-feel of the product.
Sugar is next on list along with soybean oil which means it has a good amount of healthy plant-based polyunsaturated fats. These fats help in lowering bad cholesterol. Well, ‘hydrogenated’ vegetable oil is not exactly heart healthy as it is associated with heart disease that increases bad ‘LDL’ cholesterol.
The final verdict

If you go by the facts and the necessity to give a final verdict needs to be fulfilled then it would be best to choose Peanut Butter over Nutella. Of course, the advertising gimmick that makes Nutella as a ‘health food’ isn’t correct.
For people who are health conscious and want to keep their diet strictly filled with nutrients then check labels to have – low sodium, natural Peanut Butter version. Keep in mind that you don’t want to have added sugar and hydrogenated oils. So if the ingredient list spells them both, it’s better to avoid it.
