It has been reported that at least three children have been killed after a train crashed into a school bus outside a small town in France.

According to Daily Star UK, emergency services scrambled to the scene outside the town of Perpignan in southern France today. It is believed a total of nine people are injured, with seven of the casualties being serious and only two are minor.


An official at the local Millas town hall said: “All emergency services have been mobilised and a crisis coordination unit set up.” The Pyrenees-Orientales confirmed the accident in a statement on Twitter.

The collision happened when the bus hit into the back of the train on a railway crossing at Los Palaus. The vehicle would have entered the crossing while the barriers were own.

According to startled witnesses, the bus was cut in two following the horrific collision and the body shredded.

The bus was transporting the children between Millas and the communes of Saint-Féliu-d'Amont and Saint-Féliu-d'Avall.
