Asaduddin Owaisi: All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) president Asaduddin Owaisi called the Bhansali’s film Padmaavat as ‘bakwas’ (waste) and urged Muslims not to watch the controversial film which is inspired by 16th century poet Malik Muhammad Jayasi’s poem “Padmavat.”

“The film is a bakwas. Do not waste your time by watching the film. It incidentally is based on a story written by a Muslim writer,” Owaisi said.

According to a report in Times of India, the MIM leader, while addressing a public meeting in Warangal city as part of the all-India campaign on ‘Save Sharia’ described Padmaavat a ‘manhoos’ (curse-ridden) and ‘ghaleez’ (bad) film.

“Do not run after it. Do not watch it. God has not created you to watch this two-hour film. God created you to lead a good life and do good things that should be remembered for centuries,” he said.

Asking Muslims to learn from the Rajputs, the Hyderabad MP said, “They are showing a mirror to us. They have stood united on the issue and they do not want the movie to be screened. But Muslims are divided. They do not raise their voice when attempts are made to change the Islamic law.”

The Supreme Court on Thursday paved the way for an all-India release for Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s “Padmaavat” on January 25 by staying the operation of orders banning the release of the film by the Gujarat, Rajasthan and Haryana governments.

The flick is based on the saga of the historic battle of 13th century between Maharaja Ratan Singh and his army of Mewar and Sultan Alauddin Khilji of Delhi has been facing protests from various groups, including Shri Rajput Karni Sena, for allegedly tampering with historical facts.
