Early Life And Background

Okechukwu Ukeje better known as OC Ukeje was born on 15th July 1981 in Lagos State in the south western part of Nigeria. The 36 years old actor is the second child in the family of three children.

Educational Background

He completed his primary school education in Lagos, Nigeria and successfully bagged his First School Leaving Certificate. After completing his primary school education, he proceeded to Federal Government College Ijanikin in Ojo, Lagos State, Nigeria to obtained his West African Senior School Certificate.

After completing his secondary school education, he gained admission into University of Lagos where he graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Theatre Arts. He officially launched his acting career from his first year in the University of Lagos with a lead role in a stage play and drama.

Career

He decided to pursue a career in acting while he was still studying at Federal Government College Ijanikin, Ojo, Lagos. He officially began acting from his first year at the University of Lagos, Yaba, playing a lead role in a stage play and this was prior to joining Nollywood . After some time, he decided to pursue both music and acting, then he focused mainly on acting in stage plays for the first four years of his career before attempting and winning a reality TV show, Amstel Malta Box Office (AMBO).

According to his biography, his first screen appearance was in White Waters (2008) with Joke Silva and Rita Dominic, popular film directed by Izu Ojukwu. He emerged the winner of the African Movie Academy Awards (AMAA) for the Best Upcoming Actor (2008) and the City People’s Award for Best New Act (2010) which placed him a good position as an upcoming actor. As time went on, he continued writing new music and collaborating with a few Nigerian musical artists and producers and working on radio jingles for corporate organizations. According to his biography, he worked in movies and television between 2008 and 2012.

At some point in his career, he was a member of cast of the TV series that was presented at the International Emmy World Television Festival, Wetin Dey (2007) produced by the BBC World Service Trust . He played a lead and supporting lead roles in films like Comrade, Confusion Na Wa and Awakening. The handsome young man also starred in other popular movies like Black November (2012) by Jeta Amata along side other big names like Mickey Rourke, Kim Basinger, Sarah Wayne-Callies, Hakeem Kae-Kazim, Vivica Fox to name a few.

OC Ukeje was featured on the film adaptation of Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie’s Half of a Yellow Sun (2013) with Chiwetel Ejiofor and Thandie Newton as lead cast, a film directed by Biyi Bandele. OC Ukeje was a member of repertory team that showcased 3 stage plays for the Nigeria House at the London Cultural Olympiad (2012).
