Born Rukayat Akinsanya better known by her stage name Rukky Sanda, is a Nigerian actress, film producer and director. The Nollywood goddess who added another year recently made her movie debut in 2004 while in school and she has remained on top of her career since then. Rukky is one of the highest paid Nigerian actress as well as the youngest script-writers and film makers .

Early Life And Background

Rukky Sanda whose real name is Rukayat Akinsanya was born on the 23 August 1984 in Lagos State. She was born into a large family where she happens to be her father’s 10th child but the last child in the family and she has two step mothers. She was born into a large polygamous family and lived most of her early years in Lagos, Nigeria. After completing her elementary/basic education, she proceeded to Lagos State University in 2004 where she bagged a B.SC Degree in Banking & Finance. She ventured into entertainment after graduating from Lagos State University starting her journey in Nollywood as an actress, to an independent film producer, scriptwriter. Tell me about your name Rukky. I heard it’s short for something…

If you go to my house and you ask for Rukayat, they would probably tell you they don’t know the person. It wasn’t a name I gave myself, that is what they’ve called me since I was a child. That is what everybody knows me as, I’ve always been Rukky. Probably if I have to write my full name, I may even forget the spelling.

How long did it take you to get into the university?

That was like immediately, most of us in my family wrote JAMB twice starting from SS 2 and then SS 3, it was like a preparation. My first admission was in UNILAG where I was studying English because Unilag resumed first, but I wanted to study Banking and Finance which I had the chance to do in LASU.

What secondary school did you attend?

I went to Lagos State Model College. That’s the same school Funke Akindele went to, her dad was the principal at the time but we didn’t know each other then.

Career And Rise To Stardom

Rukayat Akinsanya a.k.a Rukky Sanda dived into Nollywood in the year 2004 as an actress, to an independent film producer, scriptwriter. Before she started her acting career professionally,  she used to deal in the buying and selling of clothes and fashion accessories. She owns her independent production company, RSP (Rukky Sanda Productions) and RukkySandaStudios, in Lagos State, where filmmakers could rent up-to-date equipment, as well as an editing studio for post production.

There is really nothing to it. I try to keep it simple

What about your beauty routine?

I used to have a beauty routine, but now I don’t, because I am here today and next day I am there, I am all over, I don’t really have a routine. I just take my shower, rest, do my work, rest, play and have a lot of lovely people around me.

There was a rumour that you did a cosmetic surgery, how did you feel when you heard such?

Like I said before, I will say it again. I don’t have anything against plastic surgery; we all own our bodies and we can do whatever we choose to do with our bodies. When I heard the rumour, I didn’t attach any relevance to it because to me it’s no big deal. When I newly came into the industry, I heard such things and wonder why people will say such about me, but now I don’t care.

In other words, you can go to any length to take care of your body as long as it suits you?

Yes, I am saying as a human being, whatever makes you feel comfortable is what you should do.

What inspired you to pierce your body?

It’s what I want to do with my body.

There was a rumour sometime in the past that you once had an affair with Akon?

That rumour was since 2007 and five years after, people are still talking about it.

What was your growing up like?

I had the best growing up experiences. I didn’t have any problem. I thank God that I am blessed. I am from Ikorodu here in Lagos. My childhood was a blissful one. We were having party every time. I am still a party person.

Rukky Sanda is also a business woman and a Philanthropist, she once revealed in an interview how she feeds 100 people every week “I feed 100 people every week; the food they cook, they take it to the homeless people every week. My mom does the work while I finance it.” Rukky’s money comes from different angles including directing movies, producing movies and as an actress. She bought a house in Lekki last year and also added a N35m latest Range Rovers Evogue to her fleet of cars.
