Early life Background, Growing Up And Education

Refiloe Maele Phoolo who is widely known by his stage name Cassper Nyovest was born 16 December 1990 and raised in Montshiwa in Mafikeng, the capital city of the North West province. He was born into a lucky family where both parents are teachers and they have supported him from the day of his music career. Cassper attended high school at Sol Plaatje Secondary School. While he was in secondary school, he was athletic as he partook in various sports activities including football, cricket and basketball. He officially started rapping and dropping good lines when he was in grade 6, at the age of 12.

Nyovest failed his exams in his grade 10 and moved to his grandmother’s house in Potchefstroom after running away from his bitter parents . The following year he turned16 years old, finally made his choice to drop out of high school to focus on his musical career proper. According to the heavy weight rapper: “I told my parents that I’d rather chase my dream, which I believe is going to work out, rather than keeping it safe and regret it my whole life.” He relocated to Johannesburg the following year to pursue a career in music as a rapper and producer. “I would say it was a good decision he made but this wouldn’t go down well with must parents because their number one priority for their children is education” . He is a school drop out , followed his dream in music against the odds ( this will serve as an inspiration for those that drop out from school ) i guess.

Musical Career: Beginning And Shot To Stardom

His musical career kicked started when he was a member of a group called Childhood Gängsters (CHG), which disbanded. Following the discontinuity of this group, he then joined an eight-member group, “Slow Motion”, which included the production team, Ganja Beatz. He left high school to focus on his music career in the year 2006, and left his parents house to stay with his grandmother who resided in Johannesburg. When he was 16 years old the following year, he was signed by the Motswako label “Impact Sounds”. His career was not progressing while signed under the label, for two years he was unable to release a single track, he later left “Impact Sounds” as it didn’t impact into his sound to start a label of his own. His efforts was also proven abortive  then he moved back home.
