The fast rising Nigerian musician was born on 24 March 1993 in Osun state, Nigeria to the Adewale family. His biological father is a professional musician, Actor and Director, while his mum is the popular Nigerian actress “Toyin Adewale”. Needless to say, his dad’s uncle Segun Adewale is also musical artist too , as you can see here his entire family is connected to music one way or the other. He completed his primary and secondary school education at Living – Spring Montessori and Hi Grade College before he proceeded to university of Lagos where he obtained a degree in Accounting.

He graduated from the University when he was only 22 years old (University of Lagos ). Due of his interest in music he started his education on time unlike many other Nigerian musicians who didn’t complete their studies because they were too busy pursuing fame in the music career . Most Nigerian musicians are of the notion that Education is expensive and i would counsel they try illiteracy as it is more expensive because a man who is not educated has a lot to loose in Life.

To avoid any divided attention, Mayorkun had to face his studies first before focusing on music so that his attention will be diverted. After his graduation he dived fully into music and gave it more time and attention. After his sojourn at the bank he finally embraced music fully. According to the “Mama” crooner, his dad understood his plight when he told told him about quitting his banking job for music but his mum would not hear of it. She wasn’t in full support of his idea to abandon his banking job for music because she believes that a bird in hand is worth more than millions in the forest.

She kept on insisting that he should stick to his banking job but she later had a change of mind when when Davido put a call across to him. She was there when Davido called him and she said: “wow this is big, maybe you should give it a trial” that was how his music career kick started .

Music Career And Rise To Stardom

His music page flipped open officially in 2013 after releasing his first track along with his friends, titled GBO. Wondering why he left his bank work ? because i can hear you saying how can he leave bank job for music . He left because his salary in the bank was so poor so he decided to get another job. Prior to this moment, he had recorded a song using his cousin’s piano in late December, 2015 . He later shared the song on social media late January 2016 and Davido saw it on February 1. Davido was like ” i need to know this guy” he followed him and sent him a DM via Twitter. From there, Davido also followed him on Instagram and asked if he can do more than playing the keyboard. Mayorkun then sent Davido some of the songs after quietly listening to the best among among them , he was impressed and told him ‘guy I am signing you on’.

Davido later requested to speak with him in person , and after having a word with him , he signed him to his Davido Music Worldwide which was formally known as HKN Gång Label. This record label is home for artistes like B. Red, Dremo and Danagog. Following his recording contract with the label, he went on to release his first single “Eleko” under the “imprint of Davido Music Worldwide” . The song set a record on Youtube when it skyrocketed to 1,000,000 views within 10 days making the song the fastest debut music video to hit 1million views on the video portal.
