The Mumbai terror attack 26/11 can never be removed from our hearts. 9 years ago it traumatized all of us with mixed emotions such as hurt, anger that was hard to accept. As we look back there have been many brave men who have given up their lives for the sake of his fellow man to survive.Here we Power Humans have brought you some of the bravest men who gave up their lives to safeguard others.
As a memory, we owe a tribute to these real-life heroes.
Major Sandeep Unnikrishnan
Operation Black Tornado was launched to fight against the Terrorists who were hidden in the Taj along with the guests and staffs. Major Unni Krishnan led his own team of National Security Guard (NSG) commandos and rescued 14 hostages. Unnikrishnan being the only son of just 31 years was succumbed to the bullet wounds while battling with the terrorists.
The last message he left before parting ” Do not come up. I will handle them”
Sub-Inspector Tukaram Omble
Being a retired army man, Tukaram Omble was working as an assistant sub-inspector. He was rescuing the people when terrorists attacked the Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus ad harmed the innocent public. Though the team wasn’t well equipped, they fought hard and still managed to capture a terrorist Ajmal Kasab.
Tukaram was shot on the artillery when he caught hold of Kasab. He lost his life ultimately encouraging others to carry on the work of safeguarding others.
Hemant was the chief of Mumbai Anti-Terrorist Squad and was killed during his fight against the terrorists.
He rushed at the moment when he received the phone call about the attack and he is also responsible for shooting Kasab, a terrorist who was later captured by the police at Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus.
Havaldar Gajendra Singh
The team met up with intense fire as the terrorists were throwing grenades. Even at that point, he had the chance to retreat but he took up the dominance of the commandos and continued the attack leaving a way for other commandos to survive.
Police Inspector Vijay Salaskar
Police Inspector Vijay Slaskar, an encounter specialist took in charge of the streets in Mumbai and safeguarded the people over there. On hearing the fleeting act of the terrorists he along with other 3 officers, 4 constables rushed to the Toyota Qualis to control terrorism over there. He gave up his life bravely during the stride. Of course, our nation has lost a selfless policeman.
Additional Commissioner Ashok Kamte
Ashok Kamte opted to be a part of IPS though he had the option of being an IRS and leading a safe life. Even at that time, he was the Additional Commissioner of Mumbai Police of an eastern region that was not under the terrorist attack. He extended his service along with Karkare and Salaskar to safeguard the innocent people.
He was the first one to start up the open fire at the terrorists. Though he responded bravely to the grenades he lost his life battling along with the heavy fire.
