US Forces In Afghanistan Begin New Round of Airstrikes Against Taliban

U.S. military forces in Afghanistan have started a new aerial bombing campaign in northern Afghanistan against the Taliban.

The military issued a statement Tuesday saying it began a series of precision strikes last Friday at suspected Taliban training facilities in Badakshan province, aimed at “preventing the planning and rehearsal of terrorist acts near the border with China and Tajikistan.” The airstrikes have also destroyed vehicles stolen from the Afghan National Army that were being converted to carry improvised explosive devises.

“The Taliban have nowhere to hide,” the statement quoted General John Nicholson, the commander of U.S. Forces-Afghanistan. “There will be no safe haven for any terrorist group bent on bringing harm and destruction to this country.”

U.S. aerial strikes have also continued degraded Taliban revenue sources and safe havens, resulting in the loss of more than $30 million in revenue for the Taliban since the bombing campaign began in last November.
