Winter Calling Speaks Out With “Faces” Videos

Floridian Prog Metal Band Winter Calling have been picking up major steam since their 2016 release of Faces. Since then, they’ve released a number of music videos to complement their dreamy record.

It’s worth noting that John Wesley of Porcupine Tree and Fish appears on Faces, adding a little bit of celebrity value and a lot of general awesomeness.

“Not Like You” is one of the latest songs on Faces to receive the music video treatment. Influenced by real world events, the song deals with combating personalities of a middle-aged woman. Chris Hodges, the band’s lead, uses limited camera angles and subtle performances to convey inner dissension.

The music video, which can be seen below, includes a cameo by John Wesley and is directed by Blake Cortes.

More recently, Winter Calling released the official music video for “Follow Me Down.” The audience is carried through an avant-garde performance with minor impressions of Gothicism as Chris advocates against the use of hard substance abuse. The frame of reference is through a character one might not expect.

Safe, but not dull, “Follow Me Down” is an alluring watch and listen.

Digging a little deeper we find “A New Me a Few Me,” having been uploaded to YouTube late last year. It’s a very creepy video and it should be, seeing as the song is about sexual abuse creating dissociative identity disorder in a young girl. Like I said, “very creepy.”

Winter Calling has tremendous guts to talk about all of these issues and should be commended. It’s easy to write about things we know, but it’s when artists write about things they care about that separates them from the rest.
