Over the last couple of centuries the United States of America has occupied many different lands for varied periods of time. 

Some occupations last only a few weeks, while others last for decades. 

This is a Story about the decades long American occupation of the Ogasawara islands in Japan and how it affected its people. 

The story is told by a man named Rance Ohira, a descendant of the first people to inhabit these islands and an American.
