University Study Tips-Pro’s and Con’s of Studying with a Partner.

Have you ever considered Studying with a buddy?  Studying by yourself is lonely sometimes and motivation is low.

Studying with a Partner can be very helpful, but it can also bring you down.

Here are the Pro’s and Con’s of studying with a partner

Pro’s

Helping each other out with work you don’t understand.

Every person has their own set of skills. Your study buddy will have different skills than you do. You can help each other out by teaching your partner about the things that you know, and vice versa. It will save you a lot of time rather than figuring it out by yourself.

Motivation!

Sometimes you just get those “screw it” moments or you just procrastinate all day, because you are low on motivation. Your partner can lift your spirits and help you push through.

You don’t feel alone.

Studying all day can make you feel super lonely. It’s just you and your books. Nothing else to do.

Well, if you study with a partner you get some form of interaction. Even if you communicate about the study material together it’s still better than nothing.

When you teach you learn.

When you teach what you already know to someone, the work just sinks in a little deeper for you.

Don’t think you are wasting your time teaching to someone else. It can help you repeat the work and help you learn better.

Helps stay off social media.

You can encourage each other to stay away from social media, which will save you loads of time.

Con’s

You can get hooked on a subject you already know and waste your time.

Teaching can be good, but if your partner doesn’t come prepared .You will be spending too much time on subjects you already know and not get to the subjects you don’t know.

Socializing too much.

Studying together can lead to over socializing.

A 10 min break can easily turn into a 3 hour break. If you can’t control your socializing you will not be productive at all.

Dragging each other down.

If you are aiming for 80% and your friend 50% they will drag you down to their level. You both have to have the same goals in mind to get the best out of your study sessions.

You might argue if you don’t work together.

Compromise is key, if you can’t compromise you will have arguments.  If you think one subject is more important than the other and your buddy disagrees you will have arguments over which subject to study.

Studying with a buddy is something you will have to test out. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t. You have to go find out for yourself!

If you can communicate with your partner and try to avoid the con’s you will definitely benefit from studying with a partner.
