This off-the-grid retreat was designed by M3 Architecture in the Daintree Rainforest in Queensland, Australia. A picturesque wooden pathway connects the Cape Tribulation House with the main road and the beach.

“The exterior of the house is camouflaged with black plastic cladding and mirrored glass, allowing it to recede into the shadow of the rainforest,” the architects said. “The design accentuates the qualities of the rainforest coupled with attributes of holiday life at the beach.”
As you follow the rope along the wooden pathway, you reach a long, covered deck. This unconventional veranda, creatively integrated into the “S”-shaped building, offers alluring furnishings for outdoor relaxation. Solar panels on the roof make the project energy efficient.

“On approach, the interior of the house becomes apparent: a light space clad with plywood, a counterpoint to the otherwise cool, dark green surrounding forest,” the architects said. “Tall, south-facing windows and a dark blue ceiling is used to draw in the rainforest canopy.”
