New Eco Residences Coming to Fifth Avenue in Nomad

It looks like EOS, at 100 West 31st street won’t be the only amazing apartments in Nomad for much longer. Three new constructions are progressing in the neighborhood. Two along Fifth Avenue and the third on East 31st Street, just 2 blocks from EOS.

Back in May 2017, we learned from 6sqft of a new 1,001 ft tall super skinny skyscraper being developed by Meganom, a firm based in Moscow. The original plans called for a 928-foot Tower with 54 floors, but that seems to have changed. The architect has disclosed the new Eco Residences in Nomad at 262 Fifth Avenue “will include several ‘firsts’ in terms of its design and environmental sustainability features”. The sleek tower will be comprised of aluminum and glass exterior walls with floor-to-ceiling windows on the buildings North and South facing sides. The roof top will have an observation deck from where residents can view the New York skyline.

Down the street at 281 Fifth Avenue, Rafael Viñoly is designing a 52 story condo tower, for developers Victor Group and Lendlease, that will accommodate 130 luxury condos averaging 1,500 square feet each. Viñoly is an Uruguayan architect with offices in 4 countries (2 in the United States, 2 in England, 1 in the United Arab Emirates, and 1 in Argentina). Viñoly’s 1st New York City design can be seen at 432 Park Avenue.

Meanwhile, Morris Adjmi is working with the Elkstein Development Group on a 469-foot tall condominium complex at 30 East 31st Street. The site was the former home of the Madison Avenue Baptist Church which was demolished in 2015. The design of the 40 story luxury building will pay homage to its predecessor with diagrid pattern near the top resembling the vaulted ceilings you see in cathedrals. Expected to be completed in 2018, 30e31 will have a mix of 1 and 2 bedroom condos and penthouses totaling just 41 units.

With all of this new construction on Fifth Avenue and 31st Street, I am wondering how residents in the area are getting along.
