Charred Kebony for Rhoda Restaurant

Charred Kebony “Minami No” by Shou Sugi Ban was chosen to feature on the wall covering of the Rhoda Restaurant which has been beautifully designed by Joyce Wang. Hong Kong restauranteur Yenn Wong has created a stylish and contemporary eatery with an interior inspired by the food served there. English chef Nathan Green serves menu that is a balance of charcoal grill and smoked food, reflected in the charred timber paneling. Joyce Wang is renowned for her use of brutal colourism, often using extraordinary materials and textures throughout her projects. Wang selected Kebony for this project due to its distinct character and its impressive combination of beauty and sustainability. The crackled finish developed by Exterior Solutions Ltd is a reflection of the traditional Japanese methods in a technologically advanced style. “It is a stage for Nathan with subtle, implicit and more playful explicit references to his personality and approach throughout the interior. It is an accessible, personal environment that makes for a special dining experience.” comments Joyce Wang.
