As December is finally upon us, I thought I’d start to put some Christmas posts together.

I’m kicking off my Christmas series with a post about how to get your home ready for christmas based on your design style. There is a very wide range of Christmas trends and ideas in the hight street this year, take a look at some styles below to create the perfect Christmas for you.

1. Traditional

When most people think of christmas colours, they probably think red, green and gold. That’s exactly what the traditional Christmas is all about.

To add comfort, layer up different materials and textures for homely feel. A knitted throw makes for the ultimate in wintery warmth, with neatly piled felt and fur cushions adding yet more softness to sink into. Pair warm textures, with the soft glow of a fireplace and you’ll have a home ready for the festive period.

Don’t be afraid to mis match your tree decorations. You can use a combination of baubles, wooden ornaments, embroidered decorations as well as bells and candy canes to add depth. As long as the decorations contain the traditional greens and reds, the traditional Christmas theme will come across.

For the perfect traditional wreath, you should balance the red and green elements and maybe add a touch of white or gold.

2. Festive Glamour

If you have a more glamorous style then this one will be right up your street. Moments of gold are what Christmas is all about, the ones you remember forever. Warm your heart and your home with a dusting of sparkle to mark this special occasion.

Gold touches work really nicely on dining tables too. You can add gold elements in  cutlery, crockery, candles, place settings and ornaments. Or, if you are very brave, you can combine them all to make a bold statement.

3. Scandinavian

Scandinavian design has had a really strong influence on Christmas decorations in previous years and is still as popular today.

To create a hygge festive home,  embrace Nordic neutrals, wood textures and faux fur layers to warm up in. A combination of crisp whites and natural elements make it all about you and your family, and nothing else.

There’s something effortlessly beautiful about this style. It’s also very versatile as it can be used in old fashioned and contemporary homes alike.

You can even incorporate natural elements into present wrapping. Start with a neutral canvas of white, black, grey or brown paper, add some twine and a gift tag. Next, add pine cones, cinnamon sticks or foliage for an authentic, natural touch.

4. Contemporary

There are a few Christmas trends this year that really make a statement! I you are looking for something a bit unusual then Maison du Monde’s botanical Christmas might be the one for you.

A palette of green, teal and peacock blue, with a twinkling of gold, create the glitz and glam to get your guests talking.

Or maybe John Lewis’s ‘Tales of the Maharaja’ trend?

Tales of the Maharaja is colourful yet sophisticated. Vibrant jewel tones provide a vivid backdrop for opulent finishing touches like sequins, feathers and jewels, while baubles reach new heights of decadence with beautifully intricate designs and exotic prints.

Or even the ‘Winter palace’ look from John Lewis.

An old Russian folktale inspires this collection, where, in the midst of the fir forests and snow-capped mountains, a beautiful Winter Palace glitters. Think blue tones, frosty whites and hints of sparkle.
