The Dauphine Suite at the Southern Style Now Showhouse

As you know, we have been busy at work in my office preparing for the Traditional Home Southern Style Now Showhouse. I was so excited to participate in a showhouse for the very first time and am so grateful for the wonderful experience it has been. I am also tremendously thankful to my Paloma Contreras Design team, Ashton and Devon for their tireless work to help make my vision a reality. I designed a guest bedroom and terrace which I affectionately called the Dauphine Suite. I designed the space to be appropriate for who may have lived in the house when it was built in the 1890s, but to also feel modern and fresh. I envisioned a Southern Lady Mary– a gracious, beautiful, elegant girl with a smart wit who honors her family and heritage, but has a touch of a rebellious streak.

I immediately knew I wanted to use a custom wallpaper by deGournay and was thrilled with the way the stunning Badminton pattern on Lead Gray silk with 12 carat white gold and aluminum feather gilding turned out. It really set the stage for the entire room which features chic furnishings and accessories from Williams Sonoma Home, exquisite fabrics by Schumacher, New Orleans artist Alexis Walter‘s beautiful art,  a gorgeous, custom chandelier by New Orleans lighting designer, Julie Neill, show-stopping table lamps from Circa Lighting, and Woodard‘s fantastic outdoor furniture on the terrace adjacent to our bedroom.

The opening gala on Wednesday night was such a treat! It was so nice to see old friends and meet so many new people and see their reactions to the room I put so much of myself into. I could not be more thrilled with how it all turned out and am so grateful to Robert Leleux and Ann Maine, Editor in Chief of Traditional Home for allowing me the honor and privilege of participating in this fabulous showhouse.

The Traditional Home Southern Style Now Showhouse is located on St. Charles Avenue in New Orleans. In fact, you can see the streetcar whizzing by all day from my room and terrace! The showhouse is open through June 12th and benefits the Preservation Resource Center of New Orleans. If you live in New Orleans or have plans to visit soon, don’t miss out! The entire house is a must-see and is filled with inspiring spaces.
