Ecuador Earthquake 2016: M7.8 strongest earthquake in 37 years kills 507

At least 507 people have died after magnitude 7.8 Earthquake rattled Ecuador on April 16, 2016.

The earthquake occurred a depth of 11.9 miles approximately 27 km south-southeast of Muisne, in Esmeraldas province of Ecuador.

President Rafael Correa has declared a state of emergency and 13,500 military personnel and police officers have been dispatched for recovery operations.

According to the Reuters, this is the largest earthquake to strike Ecuador since the 1979 Tumaco earthquake. Chicago Tribune has mentioned it as the worst natural disaster to hit Ecuador since the 1949 Ambato earthquake.
