Natasha Lyonne Falls Mysteriously Pregnant in Colourful Trailer for Arthouse Horror Antibirth

With her roles in Netflix series Bloodline and FX’s American Horror Story, Chloë Savigny is maintaining her place as the queen of grit. In real life she presents a beautiful, clean-cut image but through her work she’s able to take on messy roles such as the sexually forward Chelsea, struggling to make ends meet in Bloodline, and portray them with such sincerity. Her willingness to take on these roles, which have become her niche, is what makes her one of the best character actors around at the moment. Anything she’s involved with is absolutely work a look – so here’s the trailer for Antibirth.

In a desolate town somewhere in the United States, Lou (Natasha Lyonne), a sluggish stoner wakes up from a wild night of partying with a strange illness and recurring visions of people in monster costumes. She discovers she is pregnant despite the fact that this is impossible. As the unnatural symptoms persist and increase, causing her to loose her grip on reality, it becomes apparent that whatever is growing inside her is not entirely human. Her reckless friends – played by Savigny and Meg Tilly – find it fascinating and sort of try to help her. The film also features Mark Webber in a role not entirely outlined in the trailer.

This marks the first feature film for director Danny Perez – an experimental horror enthusiast whose previous feature length project, Oddsac (2010) was a visual album for Animal Collective (cool). Antibirth looks to be a dark, trashy, tongue in cheek, arthouse horror worth a look if you are into that sort of thing. It’s scheduled for a limited US release in September, word isn’t out yet on it’s UK release. Watch the trailer below.
