Ciao Como: St. Moritz in Switzerland

If you visit St. Moritz, make sure it’s in season or you run the risk of everywhere being closed, which is what we did today.

We took the Bernina Express to St. Moritz and that in itself was an epic tale of soaring snow covered peaks, forests of green pine and lakes in mountains where the water was just thawing and giving off hues of cold icy blue, small bergs rolling and roiling in the morning heat making it look like a mini north Atlantic in winter.

The Bernina story I will tell at a later date, but onto St. Moritz itself.

The top picture is taken from a cafe/hotel that was open, as were a few others, where we had lunch, one of the best Spaghetti Bolognese I’ve tasted, the other being at our current Hote. But our trip was such that we had less than two hours to take in St. Moritz and as I said, all the shops were closed. Not that I could Afford (or want for that matter) a Louis Vuitton designer handbag. You see, the problem here is that we plebs can gawp in awe at the location, the shops and indeed the spectacular vista that surrounds this famous town, but that’s about all we can afford to do. In high season summer or winter, this place comes alive with those who can afford to stay here and those who want to be seen here. I don’t come into any such category, but it is nice to see how the other half live. But even if you could buy that bag you’ve always wanted, because you can only afford to come here out of season, you can’t buy it because nobody’s open to sell it to you. Ah, the fate of plebs the world over.

Good luck to the rich and famous, I say. But honestly, how many Louis Vuitton designer handbags do you really need in life? None in my case, but a nice Aston Martin with the top down wouldn’t go amiss.
