It’s looking more and more like a good investment buying in Cyprus and renting out as short term holiday lets. The banks here aren’t offering a very good return on investment and I suspect that’s true in many parts of Europe. So on that basis we drove to Paphos on Saturday to check out a couple of areas, Mandria and Anarita, to see what properties are on offer and to see what the areas had to offer holidaymakers.
On our arrival in Cyprus, ten years ago, one of the first places we visited was a small taverna in Mandria square that did a fabulous souvla on a Sunday. Souvla, in case you have no idea, is large pieces of meat, usually pork and chicken, cooked over a charcoal fire, served with a salad. In other words a BBQ but with a Cypriot twist. It was an eye opener to us as this was our first taste of Cyprus and it tasted really good. As we are looking to buy an apartment we knew there was property in Mandrai and in nearby Anarita, so we decided to go property hunting there.
But on Saturday the weather was against us and it was almost monsoon conditions down the highway. But it cleared up as we arrived in Paphos and we spent the rest of the day looking at the area, gauging if this was the right area for what we wanted. Sorry to say it wasn’t, although we did discover Aphrodite Sands which looks great. Unfortunately it was way out of our league for price. Anarita I’m afraid, didn’t offer anything we liked and the area wasn’t what we expected, but we will keep looking. Later in the week it’s another trip to Paphos and this time we are looking at Peyia. Again, an area we know fairly well from having lived nearby over five years ago. But a lot of building work has gone on since then and maybe, just maybe, we will be able to find a hidden gem.
