100,000 to 1. That is apparently the odds against a common British grey squirrel being born white, that is, an albino. Grey squirrels are not native to Britain, they hail from the United States, but you see them everywhere. What you do NOT normally see is a white squirrel, but a homeowner in Sussex found one in her garden and captured it on camera.

Must be an odd sight, seeing a white squirrel. But I wonder what the odds are for seeing the native, much prettier, British red squirrel, in Sussex. I’ll bet it’s higher than 100,000 to 1 against.
Red squirrel’s have been driven out of most of the UK and you only find them in far flung areas of Northern England and Scotland. Which is a shame because these little fellows are a lot cuter than their American cousins.
I’ve had close encounters with many animals in gardens in Britain. From feeding a tiny weasel to a blackbird on my finger, but squirrels have always been the cheekiest, often taking food, a lot of food, from my hand.
Cyprus, on the other hand, seems only to have wild wildlife, with great fear of humans. In Cyprus we don’t tend to have gardens the way we do in the UK and so we rarely interact with wildlife, except of course ants and flies in the summer and they just love a good barbecue!
