During my two weeks of soaking up the sun and the rosé, I had a long, hard look at my romcom- in-progress, draw in by all its flaws and lack of sting in its tail (actually I do mean tale.)  With my tan fading fast, there is now a ruthless rewrite going on spurred on by witnessing a writing masterclass on TV last night.

I binge-watched four episodes adapted for TV from that Robert Galbraith chappie’s Cormoran Strike novels which are currently airing on the BBC.  The first three episodes, The Cuckoo’s Calling were sizzling.  

Add some terrific casting, including Martin Shaw and  Siân Phillips, but notably the gorgeous Tom Burke as Strike and Holliday Grainger as his equally gorgeous partner-in-solving-crimes, Robin Ellacott.  They smolder so well on-screen together you can see virtual steam coming out the TV.  I haven’t been so gripped since Abi Morgan’s brilliant piece of writing for another BBC TV production, River, in 2105 and Sally Wainwright’s Happy Valley.

Now … back to my romcom-in-progress and injecting a little steaminess.  Visualising my main characters as Burke and Grainger might do the trick.
