Jose Mourinho Could End Up Coaching PSG

Since he was relieved of his duties as the manager of Chelsea, Jose Mourinho has been linked to Manchester United as their next manager because incumbent manager Louis Van Gaal has not been able to get the Red Devils back to the top of the Premier League table as quickly as the club and its fans had hoped. If Mourinho does get hired by Manchester United, the club’s online soccer betting odds are sure to improve. However, the chances of Mourinho becoming Manchester United’s next manager seem to be slipping and rumors of him taking over other jobs are starting to come out.

One of the jobs that Mourinho has been linked to recently is the manager position at French powerhouse PSG. Since Manchester United hasn’t made any public comments about Mourinho and their plans for the future, PSG seems like a likely destination for Mourinho, even if it is only to win a championship in France, which is something he hasn’t done in his very successful career.

Most big name managers avoid coaching in the French Ligue 1, because it is not a very competitive league. PSG has won the league three consecutive years, and are on the Verge of winning it for the fourth straight year.

Despite the club’s success in the domestic league, it hasn’t advanced past the quarterfinals of the Champions League, which is a challenge that might be enticing enough to get Mourinho on board.

If Mourinho accepts the job, he would take over from lame duck coach Laurent Blanc, who is expected to leave the club at the end of the season. Due to the success the club has had in the last four years, Mourinho won’t have to worry about winning the league as he would in England, Spain, or Italy, because the competition isn’t as much as it is in those leagues.

At PSG, Mourinho can turn most of his attention in helping the club get over its Champions League hump, just like he did with Inter Milan in 2010.

Qatar Sports Investments, the owners of PSG, also wouldn’t mind opening up their deep pockets to allow Mourinho to buy the players he feels can help the team win the Champions League. With star striker Zlatan Ibrahimović leaving the club this summer, the team is expected to sign one or two big names to fill the void and keep them at the top of the Ligue 1 standings.

While PSG is not as big a club as Chelsea, Manchester United, Real Madrid, and Inter Milan when it comes to fan base and expectations, the club owners have shown a willingness to pay for big names if they believe the player will help them win.

In 2012, PSG paid AC Milan 65 million Euros for Ibrahimović and Thiago Silva. The club also signed Lucas Moura from under Manchester United’s nose, so they have shown that they aren’t scared of bidding against bigger clubs to sign a player.

On paper, signing with PSG sounds like a good move for Mourinho. Since he has proven over the years that he is anything but conventional, don’t be surprised to see him sign with the Ligue 1 champions.
