4 Job Interview Tips: How to Make a Great Impression

Finding a new job in 2022 usually means two things - you’ll probably work remotely, and you’ll probably do your Interview online. Using one of those practical video teleconferencing software solutions is a great way to go, but this also means you’ll have to get ready for this new interview in a new and delicate manner. Even though your potential employers won’t see your entire body, but only your head, hands, and torso, you need to do everything right and try your best to impress these people. Luckily, there are tons of tips you can look into before you start your interviewing process, so if you want to make a great impression as well, here’s what you need to do.

Spice up your equipment

Doing video interviews sounds like the easiest thing in the world, and while this is much easier and simpler than your traditional job interviews, there’s nothing easy nor simple about this process. One of the reasons why video interviews are so popular is the fact that we’re living in a world governed by a global COVID-19 pandemic which is why so many people work remotely - from their homes or other destinations. However, if you want to be a great worker even while you’re working from home, you need to make sure your equipment is working flawlessly and quickly.

This is important when conducting an online interview. Some of the most important equipment you’ll need include your computer, tablet, or mobile phone, as well as a stable and fast Internet connection. You’ll also need a proper microphone and a set of headphones that are going to make your interview easier and more successful, and that’s something we’re all aiming for. Finally, you’ll need your charger close by, just in case your interview lasts longer than you’ve expected and you need to charge your laptop, tablet, or mobile phone in the middle of the process.

Dress professionally

As mentioned before, being a part of a video interview means that your entire body won’t be visible to your potential employers, but that doesn't mean you should dress improperly. On the contrary, picking the right suit will help you make the best first impression possible, and that’s always important when applying for a job. But, what should you wear?

You need to keep things simple and effective - if you’re a lady, stick to blouses and sweaters that will make you look formal and professional, and if you’re a gentleman, opt for shirts and jackets that will show how professional and work-oriented you are. Once you do that, you can wear anything you want beneath your torso, so try to pick out clothes that will make you feel relaxed and cool. Still, whatever you opt for, remember not to stand up during or after your interview no matter what happens!

Dress to impress in person

In case you need to take another interview and meet your potential employers in person, you’ll need to rethink your fashion choices and try to impress them. This might easily be your only chance to do that, so don’t hesitate to pick the best outfit and be on your best behavior.

When choosing your outfit, go with something that makes you feel relaxed and comfortable, but don’t forget your accessories either. These might not seem too important at first, but they’ll take your look to the next level, and that’s always welcomed when looking for a job. A cool watch or one of those appealing minimalist walletsthat will show your future employers how organized you are - these things might make all the difference, so make them a part of your look as well.

Work on your skills

Looking amazing - both online and in-person - will boost your chances for employment, but that’s simply not enough. What you need is a particular set of skills that will help you tell your employer what an amazing candidate you are and how lucky they’ll be if they hire you. These skills might end up helping you get the job of your dreams, which is why working on them before having your interview is a must.

Fortunately, there are tons of skills you can work on if you wish to become more employable than ever, from your communication skills to your digital skills and everything else in between. Still, once you’ve developed your skills and upgraded them before the interview, you need to accentuate them during your interview and show everything you know. This is the only way to get the job you’re hoping for and let your potential employers know that you’re a much better candidate than everyone else.

Going through this process isn’t easy, and you have to invest a huge amount of time, energy, and patience when preparing for a job interview. You have to show and tell everything you know, but keep in mind that you can’t go overboard and look like someone who’s trying too hard. So, if you want to impress the people who are thinking about hiring you, keep things simple and natural, and you’re going to get the job more easily than you could’ve ever anticipated!
