Mother!

10:13pm

Just finished watching the Movie; Mother! It's so bleak, pique yet fascinating in some other way. The opening of the show starts in an oblique and ambiguous manner, which then proceeds to depressive scenes, and lastly, it ends with the start of the first chapter. Pretty much like the cycle of life, where babies were born, grew to either learn how to love or hate the world. Of course, I was hesitant when I read the synopsis, trying to figure out what exactly this movie is gonna take me. Finally, my curiosity gave in and I decide to venture into the different genre of horror. I am and always will be a horror movie fan. Despite growing up scared.

It depicts the sanctity of life, whereby humanity is more sacred than the rest of creation. Human life is not holy in the same sense that God is holy. Many apply the sanctity of life to issues like abortion and euthanasia, and, while it definitely applies to those issues, it applies to much more. It should motivate us to combat all forms of evil and injustices that are perpetuated against human life. Violence, abuse, oppression, corruption, etc.

The scenes soar to greater sorrow and anger when a baby was born, then taken away and literally torn apart from his mother because the people (media) wanted to see it. Media doesn't care about your life, well in a certain way some people aim to have what belongs to you because they are jealous of your processions (which depicts the scene where people started stealing in Mother's house) And I believe him (the main protagonist) is giving in to them and society, thus shutting down Mother's request to make them leave the house. But many readers and viewers have different takes on that particular scene. As for the rioting chaos escalating, I believe it was the director's interpretation about humanity’s destruction of the environment.

All in all, It wasn't a film for everyone. Especially when the message is simply about mother nature giving all she have to the world, yet it isn't ever enough for men because ultimately, we humans will take it for granted and crush it to pieces, only to be rebuild and forgiven by the hands of God.

However given the success rating of the movie, the metaphors and juxtaposition effects are there. The colors and camera effects aids in delivering the speech and therefore, it's become one of the fourth scariest movie ever made in my list, first being The Nightmare on elm street ( particularly this one scene where Freddy Kruger force fed food into the lady's mouth and I remember watching it when I was little, only to search high and low for that scene again in order to relive the moment 10 years later. Found myself pretty disturbed by the scene. Another one was when he turned a man into comic books and later shreds them into pieces.) The second one being the mist, (because the ending rages me and Jennifer usually doesn't give no shit after a movie is finished, and that pretty rages me till now because Stephen King couldn't find a more merciful way to end his stories.) Third is Stay Alive, (watched it when I was 7/8 years old and the face of the Godmother still scars me until I get to an advanced age, took me 6 years to finally re-watch the movie and then to disappoint again because I can't get rid of her appalling appearance.)
