When we were staying at the absolutely gorgeous Hotel Mas Azulli we asked for a recommendation of some of the best Restaurant in Figueres and we were given a few options. When we got to Figueres we walked past Bocam and it looked adorable and considered we considered it to be a leading contestant for lunch.
After visiting both the main Dali museum as well as the stunning Dali Jewellery museum (which must not be missed), we walked past some of the other restaurants that we had been suggested but ended up taking a chance and going back to Bocam.
What we ate:
Gazpacho: this was the creamiest gazpacho I have ever had. It was smooth, velvety and light at the same time. The grilled langoustines and cubed mangoes added a nice and original touch. I really wish I had the recipe and could make this at home.
Black rice: with cuttlefish and squid – another delicious dish. The rice was perfectly cooked and creamy. Such a perfect example of Spanish cuisine done well.
Salmon: perfectly cooked and served with curry, coconut and coriander. Simple but beautifully done.
Biscuit with red berries and yoghurt: they were sadly out of the hazelnut cake with toffee that I had wanted to try so I settled for one of their more typical desserts. The morsels of a denser richer cake were topped with fresh and sweet strawberries and some soft yoghurt as well as crumbly bits that added a lovely texture.
In sum: it is no wonder this place wasn’t on a list or showed up on searches as the best restaurant in Figueres. It had opened just three weeks before we visited. Lesson learned, sometimes just follow your instincts and eat somewhere unplanned and un- researched… your food expectations will likely be exceeded.
