Port Dickson, Negeri Sembilan

Port Dickson or also know as PD

Port Dickson is a well known and favourite Beach destination for Malaysians and also Singaporeans due to its location. Port Dickson is located about 2 hours drive from Kuala Lumpur or an hour’s drive from the Kuala Lumpur International Airport. It’s also our favourite beach destination when we were living in Kuala Lumpur. Port Dickson is a beautiful resort town facing the Straits of Malacca.

Popular Beaches in Port Dickson

There are a lot of interesting places to visit in PD but our favourite place to hang out will always the beach.

Teluk Kemang
Teluk Kemang beach is the most popular beach in PD along the 18km stretch of the Port Dickson coastline. It has better facilities with lots of food eateries, changing and shower rooms, information centre and also accommodations. On weekends and holidays, the beach gets really crowded with visitors. Amenities have been built to accommodate the influx of visitors. There are ample car parks, paved walkways, gazebos, shower stalls, souvenir shops and hawker stalls. The only nuisance comes from the flurry of jet skis and motor boats speeding noisily along the sea.

Blue Lagoon-Tanjung Biru.
Just a few kilometres from Teluk Kemang is a place called Blue Lagoon. This was the place where our family used to go for picnics when we were kids. There are a cluster of small hotels, bungalows and apartments located close by. The beach will be slightly crowded on weekends as the stretch of beach is rather short. There are some small cafes if you don’t want to bring food. There are also the basic amenities like shower and toilets too. To go in there you have to pass an army base and a PLKN camp.

Tanjung Gemuk
Tanjung Gemuk is a small beach hidden behind a residential village minutes away from Port Dickson town. So you will find some coffee shops and grocery stores there. As there is not much hotel here, it’s a rather quiet stretch of beach. The beach here is OK but rather stony not like the beach in Teluk Kemang. There are two large hotels here with the largest called the Glory Beach Hotel. A recent addition is a water chalet resort called the Legend Water Chalet. The beach is also known as Scouts Beach as it was a meeting place for scouts in the 80s.

Bagan Pinang Beach
Bagan Pinang lies between the 2nd to 4th mile of Port Dickson. Bagan Pinang is quite a long stretch of beach and is where most of the resorts and hotels are situated. From the beach you can walk to a few mangrove islands at low tide. Low tide is the best time to look for mussels and crabs.

Places of Interest in Port Dickson

Tanjung Tuan Lighthouse Originally built by the Portuguese to guide their ships after they conquered Melaka in1511. It faces the Straits of Malacca; its searchlight still illuminates the shores of Tanjung Tuan till this day. Tanjung Tuan Lighthouse has been gazetted as a bird watching park because the Cape is a popular stopover point for migratory birds. From September to March, flocks of sparrows, honey buzzards, and swifts can be seen here, together with birds of prey, such as hawks and eagles. It’s a really awesome sight. PD Ostrich Farm This looks like a little small farm where they rear ostriches. You’ll also be able to taste ostrich satay, ostrich burger and purchase souvenirs as well as cosmetics derived from ostrich oil. You might also get a chance to ride an ostrich. Apart from all these there are many more attractions and destinations which is worth to visit and explore. Bookmark Travel at Malaysia as Malaysia is truly a dream destination to explore. My next post will be on my personal review of Accomodation in Port Dickson
