Intel Tiger Lake-H Laptop Processors Officially Released, Tops Out At 8 Core With 5GHz Boost Clock

Intel unveiled its 11th Gen Intel Core H-series mobile processors, code-named “Tiger Lake-H” and confirmed its worldwide launch on May 11. The flagship Intel Core i9-11980HK leads the lineup – with the Core H-series based on 10nm SuperFin process technology and a processing speed of up to 5.0GHz, with up to eight cores and 16 threads and 20 lanes of PCIe Gen 4 support, a first for an H-series Intel CPU.

The chip-maker claims that with the new H-series, the CPU can directly access high-speed GDDR6 memory attached to the graphics card, enabling gamers to experience higher framerates with lower latency, and load large textures faster.

Earlier renditions of the Tiger-Lake series of processors made it the only x86 processor which trounced Apple’s M1 chip in benchmark scores. However, at the time, it only came up to four cores – a major drawback considering its performance. Now with three different eight-core chips and two six-core chips, Intel has now filled that gaping hole and even its own in-house testing results indicate that even its performance in real-time usage will outpace its AMD counterparts.

Intel’s benchmark performance of the i9 11980HK against the AMD Ryzen 9 5900 HX was leaked earlier — where it trounced the Ryzen comfortably. The mobile version of the i9 11980HK has a TDP of 45 W, although it can be scaled down to 35 W. The AMD chip had an inferior performance than Intel even after it had a higher 10 W higher TDP.

The chip-maker also introduced the new Intel vPro H-series processors. This lineup is led by the eight-core and 16-thread Intel Core i9-11950H, and Intel Xeon W-11000 series mobile processors. The company said these chips will power more than 80 enthusiast laptop designs across consumer, commercial and workstation segments this year. At the time of launch, more than one million 11th Gen H-series processors were shipped to Intel partners.
