Intel To Reveal Its Full Rocket Lake CPU and Z590 Motherboard Lineup in CES 2021, 11th Gen Processors to Release Later in March

A new report has shed light on Intel’s plans to reveal its 11th Gen Rocket Lake desktop CPUs at CES 2021, which will take place on January 11. Intel will also unveil the newer 500 series motherboards to go alongside with 11th gen CPUs, which will go on sale earlier than the processors themselves.

The report, which comes from WCCFTech, claims that Intel’s Rocket Lake Cpus will go on sale 2 months later in March. So it looks like many consumers might be stuck with the newer motherboards for that timeframe. However, as we mentioned in our previous reports, Rocket Lake CPUs will be backwards compatible with Z490 so you won’t have to upgrade your motherboard as soon as you think.

Intel Core 11th gen will sell alongside 10th gen

Cypress Cove (11th Generation) architectural improvements and new features

The report also states that Intel will keep both families of processors together on sale, with the current flagship core i9-10900K retaining its 10 core position. This makes sense since Rocket Lake will only offer CPUs with up to 8 cores/16 threads, as Intel had previously revealed.

Rocket Lake will bring a noticeable improvement in IPC and clock speeds over Intel’s current microarchitecture. While this is a much-needed change, the backport to 14nm has some people in the community worried. We know that offering a significant boost on the same architectural process isn’t unheard of. Just take Ryzen 5000 for example. AMD managed to increase boost clocks and IPC by a significant margin with Zen 3, which is built on the same 7nm process.

PCIe 4.0 and Intel Xe graphics are new additions

That’s not all, as Rocket lake will also finally bring PCIe 4.0 support to Intel customers. Joining the list of new feature sets are Intel Xe graphics, which is the company’s new scalable graphics solution for both integrated mobile as well as dedicated desktop graphics. Preliminary tests with Intel Xe have shown a good improvement in gaming performance, but we’re still quite a ways away from playing AAA titles on integrated graphics.

It’s an exciting time in the PC landscape, with everything from processors to graphics cards to even storage getting significant boosts in such a short period of time. Only time will tell what Intel manages to achieve on their new desktop CPU offerings, but if they are to beat Ryzen, then team blue will have to come up with something special.
