Hollywood Stands United in Support of George Floyd

#BlackLivesMatters #AllLivesMatter

George Floyd – the name is doing the rounds on the internet for a reason. He is a victim of racism in the U.S like many others. George Floyd, an African-American man, lost his life in Minneapolis, Minnesota, on May 25. He died after minutes of struggle after a Minneapolis police officer held him down with a knee on his neck as George Floyd pleaded “I can’t breathe.” His demise has enraged people around the U.S to stand up against racism because ‘Every Life Matters.’ Black Lives Matters has always been more of a human rights movement rather than a civil rights movement. The incident is suggestive of how regressively progressive our society is. It’s painful.

Along with protesters, Hollywood stands united for Justice for Floyd. Celebrities are using their social media platforms to denounce police brutality and racial injustice.

“We need justice for George Floyd. We all witnessed his murder in broad daylight,” she said. “We’re broken and we’re disgusted. We cannot normalize this pain,” said Hollywood singer Beyonce. “I’m not only speaking to people of color. If you’re white, black, brown or anything in between, I’m sure you feel hopeless by the racism going on in America right now. No more senseless killings of human beings. No more seeing people of color as less than human. We can no longer look away. George is all of our family in humanity. He’s our family because he’s a fellow American,” she added.

Hollywood Celebrities like Kim Kardashian, Halsey, Ariana Grande, Bernie Sanders, Naomi Campbell and Taylor Swift along with many other celebrities tweeted the following condemning the injustice done to George Floyd:

Streaming platform Netflix stood in solidarity with nationwide protests over the death of George Floyd on Saturday by sharing on its social accounts the “duty to our Black members, employees, creators and talent to speak up.”

Images and videos captured by news networks and social media users showed that some of the spray-painted messages on the logo included “no cops,” “f**k Trump” and “#Love.” A police vehicle and an American flag were set on fire in front of the headquarters, a while later.

Everybody, ranging from a commoner to a celebrity, condemned the injustice done to George Floyd and the government for giving a blind eye to the racial problem in the country. The solidarity with which Hollywood stands is commendable, nobody knows what the final decision would be but everyone has done their bit. A petition has been launched for Justice for Floyd and everybody demands strict action against the brutal officer.
