Two teenagers that have been hauled in for questioning in connection with the murder of an 18-year-old Barnard College Freshman Tessa Majors have now been freed after detectives cleared them as suspects, police said

Detectives Rodney Harrison, the Chief of New York Police Department said earlier that the two teens were being questioned with guardians present.

However, sources reported that detectives said neither of the two teens was involved in the attack on Wednesday.

New York City police are reportedly interrogated many persons of interest in the stabbing death of an 18-year-old Barnard College freshman.

Sources stated that a security guard at Morningside Park in upper Manhattan noticed Tessa Majors on Wednesday at about 5:30 p.m, bleeding from various stab wounds, on a staircase leading out of the park. Her cell phone was discovered nearby, along with a knife. Tessa Majors was taken to a hospital where she was declared dead.

A source reported that the witnesses saw multiple men escaping the scene. Police reportedly think that Majors was stabbed to death during an attempted robbery.

Sources said that police are now interrogating multiple persons of interest in connection to the murder. Officials are reportedly investigating a possible connection between the murder and a list of robberies in the region near the Columbia University campus this year.

Sources said that police followed a track of blood from the scene to a nearby housing complex and take a 16-year-old boy into custody. It is not known if he is being interrogated in relation to the college freshman’s murder.

The victim was originally from Virginia and registered at Barnard College this fall. According to posts on her Instagram account, she also played in a band that newly released an album and had its first New York City show.

A witness who is a touring scholar at Columbia appeared at the park just after Majors was found and saw responders trying to revive her.

“She was just lying there. Police were giving first [aid]. I did not want to disturb the officials. It was a very sad incident. Awful,” the witness said on Wednesday.
