A Youth Pastor has been sentenced for 50 years in prison for assaulting two teenagers.

In September, the 33-year-old Joseph Potts pleaded guilty of two crimes which are physical exploitation of a child and first-degree assault.

According to the 18th Judicial District Attorney’s office, other counts of the crimes were dismissed as a part of the plea agreement.

George Brauchler, the District Attorney said in a statement that “There is likely a specific place in hell for those who satisfy their lascivious physical desires under the appearance of being a youth pastor. We can, at best, defend ourselves from him in this life. His true punishment awaits him in the next.”

The crime occurred in 2017 when Potts serves as a youth pastor at Jubilee Fellowship Church. At the time of the crime, the two boys were aged 14 and 15.

The DA’s office said that “Potts befriended the youngsters and invited them to stay overnight at his flat to play video games. When they got there, Potts had them watch lewd content. He then started lewd acts with the boys, which resulted in physical assaults.”

Senior Deputy DA Danielle Jaramillo prosecuted the case.

“Mr. Potts is the most dangerous kind of criminal. He practiced a religious position of leadership in order to win the trust of parents so that he had access to their kids. These parents believed that their kids would be safe when alone with the defendant, and he took advantage of that trust in the worst way,” she said. “This judgment is due to the courage and bravery of two boys who were ready to come forward and reveal what happened to them. If not for the two boys, Mr. Potts would have done this again to other kids. The two boys truly are heroes.”

Joseph Potts will be registered as a physical offender.
