R.Kelly Hired New Government Employee

R.Kelly approached a government employee in 1994 so that he could get a fake ID for the musician Aaliyah, a person close with the matter told. A determined question has asked R. Kelly’s two-decade music career: How was he able to rightfully marry the singer Aaliyah in 1994 when she was just 15 years old?

On Thursday, national prosecutors in Brooklyn indicted Mr. Kelly of approaching an Illinois government employee on Aug. 30, 1994, in order to get a fake ID for Aaliyah, according to the statement and a person familiar with the matter.

The fake ID was to be used to get a marriage license that recorded her age as 18, the person familiar with the matter told. Their marriage was later canceled.

New Allegation On Rapper R.kelly

The new allegation increases on an existing racketeering statement filed in New York against Mr. Kelly that involves him of physically abusing young girls and forcing them into illegal abuse activity. This year, Mr. Kelly, 52, has been criminally charged in various authorities on charges that he physically abused minors.

Aaliyah, whose full name was Aaliyah Dana Haughton, passed away in 2001 in a plane crash at age 22. She is named in the new statement only as “Jane Doe #1.”

 Steven Greenberg, Mr. Kelly’s lawyer, told his client had “no idea” Aaliyah was 15 when they married.“My opinion is that she did not demand to be 15, and in order to get married, she held to lie about her age,” Mr. Greenberg stated at the time.

Mr. Greenberg announced on Thursday that the new indictment “does not appear to materially alter the landscape.”More than two decades ago, Vibe magazine reported that an Illinois marriage license for Mr. Kelly and Aaliyah recorded her age as 18. Mr. Kelly, whose actual name is Robert Kelly, was 27 at the time. The license was dated Aug. 31, 1994, the day after Mr. Kelly allegedly paid the bribe.
