Girl, 15, Groped, Tied On Bed, And Molested By Cousin Brother

On Thursday, in Gurgoan, India a 15-year-old girl was allegedly tied and molested by her 16-year-old Cousin.

The event has come as a shock to the residents of Gurgaon’s Sector 51 region.
The 15-year-old girl was sent to her mother’s sister-in-law’s house since she was not feeling good. She was to help her mother’s sister-in-law with the daily household works as her mother’s sister-in-law has ill health.

As the condition of her health got worse, the boy’s mother went to the hospital. Once they were alone, the boy started groping his cousin. He then tied her cousin’s legs and hands to the ben and he then started molesting the girl. On the next day at the school, the girl fainted and she narrated to her teacher what had happened to her after she revived.

The mother of the girl was informed, and she progressed to file a complaint at the Women’s Police Station. The complaint was filed against her sister- in-law’s son.

The Public relations Officer of Gurgaon Police, Subash Bokan stated that the boy is being held. He further stated that a case had been filed and the investigation is initiated. In India, there has been frequently reported of other cases child-on-child Physical Abuse.

The Prevention of Children from Child sexual Offenses Act (POCSO) is an act intended to deal with child physical abuse. However, recent data shows that more than 57% of these cases did not invoke the Act. Instead of this appropriate act, IPC section 376 is being invoked, which deals with molestation in general.

The Act is intended to give special provisions for child Molestation Cases but is being neglected.

The national crime reports Bureau under the Ministry of Home Affairs has published this data. The report states that the act was invoked in just 7,498 cases, of the total 17,557 cases. This shows the dismal state of affairs with regard to the recording of child physical abuse in the country. The Kailash Sathyarthi Children’s Foundation published a statement after the data was released. It stated that the report shows either a lack of awareness amongst police officers or reluctance on their part.

Similarly, the report also revealed the horrific state of these cases still pending on trial. 90% of the child molestation cases are still pending before courts- 51,499, to be exact.
