Cops say the dead body of Patricia Ann Anton was found inside her home in the resort town of Cabarete.

They say it seems that the American died during a Brutal Robbery in which her phone, laptop, and 40-inch plasma TV were all taken by the thief.

Drawers and lockers inside the flat – on the north side of the holiday island – had also been completely viewed

According to preceding analysis, her body revealed signs of strangulation, spokesperson for the National Police Frank Felix Duran told reporters.

The 63-year-old’s body was also reportedly found with the hands and feet tied up, with a gag in her mouth and there were signs she had been beaten.

The mother of two’s body has been sent for forensic examination and an investigation has been opened, the Prosecutor’s Office added.

Local media describe the frontal gate of the property had not been forced open so police believe the crime may have been done by an individual or a gathering known to the victim.

Anton, who has relatives in Michigan, Illinois, had been residing in the Dominican Republic for 15 years.

She was reportedly an English professor at a school in Mariposa where she is said to have been well-liked by all.

The school is part of an ambition to take improvised girls away from a life on the roads and give them skills and abilities to stop them from being abused.

Thomas Anton paid tribute to his sister-in-law, addressing: “Patty Anton was one of the most caring souls you could ever meet. She devoted her life to helping children. Her death is a misfortune.

“I have decided to use her memory as a motivation to be of greater assistance to those around me. She was helpful to everyone, always, without exclusion.”

According to the investigation from the Observatory of Citizen Security, in the first three months of 2019, 240 murders were listed in the Dominican Republic.
