Snapdragon 665 vs 710 vs 712 comparison, Antutu-GeekBench benchmarks

Qualcomm recently introduced Snapdragon 665 and Snapdragon 712. The Snapdragon 665 is a lower-midrange chipset, an upgraded version of the Snapdragon 660. On the other hands, Snapdragon 712 packs some really good specs suitable for upper-midrange devices, a slightly upgraded version of Snapdragon 712. Most of the mid-range devices are expected to be driven by these processors. In this article, we will be comparing Snapdragon 665 vs Snapdragon 710 vs Snapdragon 712. Hardware and GPU

The Snapdragon 665 uses an Octa-CPU with 2x Kryo 260 cores clocked @2.0 GHz and rest 4x Kryo 260 cores are clocked @1.8 GHz. In comparison, Snapdragon 710 packs 2x Kryo 360 powerful cores clocked @2.2 GHz, remaining 6x Kryo 360 are pointed to 1.8 GHz. Lastly, the Snapdragon 712 arrives with overclocked Kryo 360 with 2.3 GHz speed. Snapdragon 665 is using 11-nanometer process, whereas, the other two are built-on 10-nanometer process, measurable more power efficiency.

The CPU department is undoubtedly more powerful and optimized on Snapdragon 712 followed by Snapdragon 710 and Snapdragon 665. Therefore, we can expect smooth and lag-free multitasking on Snapdragon 712 powered devices. SDM665 and SDM710 also have powerful CPU hardware. For normal day to day usage, all three have sufficient power to run any kind of apps. All three chipsets are using Adreno 616 GPU to manage the graphics intensive task. In the GPU department, all three are equally good by ensuring you to provide overall good and stable gaming experience.

Display and Memory

The Snapdragon 665 supports up to 2520×1080 pixels Full HD+ display. Both Snapdragon 710 and Snapdragon 712 are well capable of running up to 3360×1440 pixels Qual HD+ panels with HDR10 support. Definitely, Snapdragon 700 dual has a clear edge over Snapdragon 665 when it comes to displaying resolution. For storage, all three matching current industry standard with UFS 3.0 / eMMC 5.1 support.

Furthermore, The Snapdragon 665 can hold up to 8GB LPDDR4 dual-channel RAM, while, Snapdragon 710/712 bring support up to 8GB LPDDR3 or LPDDR4X dual-channel memory. LPDDR4X is slightly faster than the standard LPDDR4 and RAM speed is 1866 MHz on this trio.

Camera and Connectivity

The Snapdragon trio can support up to 48MP single camera or dual 16MP + 16MP camera on both front and rear. Meanwhile, the Snapdragon 710 and 712 single camera can be enhanced up to 192MP using different techniques. Like, Samsung recently launched GW1 64MP sensor and 108MP ISOCELL Bright HMX camera sensor. Indeed, these are not truly that big as they are showing on paper, but using pixel binning technique to achieve up to 108MP resolution.

The Snapdragon 665 uses Qualcomm Spectra 165 with 2x ISP, whereas, the other two are using Qualcomm Spectra 250 with 2x ISP to process images.  For video, all are capable of playing up Up to 4K Ultra HD codec supporting H.265 (HEVC), H.264 (AVC), VP8, VP9). Camera support is really wider on all three; therefore, all mid-rangers devices can adapt these chipsets.

The cellular department is handled by the Snapdragon X12 modem for the Snapdragon 665. The Snapdragon X15 powers the Snapdragon 710 and 712. The maximum download limit is 600 Mbps for X12, which can go up to 800 Mbps on the other two. All three allow up to 150 Mbps upload speed. Other calling features included VoLTE with SRVCC to 3G and 2G, Voice over Wi-Fi (VoWiFi) with LTE call continuity, and HD and Ultra HD Voice (EVS), of course, all three support Dual VoLTE SIM cards.

Other features include USB 3.1, Bluetooth 5.0, true wireless audio, Qualcomm mobile security, Qualcomm content protection, USB 3.1 support, 802.11a/b/g (dual-band 2.4GHz, 5.0 GHz). From charging prospective, SDM665 only supports Quick Charge 3.0, SDM710 arrives with Quick Charge 3.0 and SDM712 brings maximum charging speed with Quick Charge 4+.

GeekBench-Antutu benchmarks

The average GeekBench scores for Snapdragon 665 are 1526 points for single-core and 5600 points for multi-cores. The Snapdragon 710 scores 1899 points for single-core and 5966 points for multi-core. Lastly, Snapdragon 712 numbers are slightly improved with 1910 points for single-core and 6060 points for the multi-core results.

For AnTuTu, snapdragon 712 powered Mi 9 SE scores approx. 1,87,000 points on AnTuTu benchmarks followed by roughly 1,84,000 points for Snapdragon 710 and 1,60,000 points for Snapdragon 665. It may vary device to device due to a different kind of optimizations made by the manufacturers.

Conclusion

There is no doubt that Snapdragon 712 is the most powerful processor among all three, but, every chipset has its own pros and cons. The Snapdragon 665 is designed for the lower mid-range devices in the sub 10K INR category. Other two are somehow suitable for more premium devices.
