Concern for Leeds as potential cut-price summer exodus revealed

Concern for Leeds as potential cut-price summer exodus revealed

Word stemming from the media on Friday points towards a potential player exodus from Leeds United upon the conclusion of the campaign.

The Peacocks, of course, are currently in the thick of the battle against relegation from the Premier League.

On the back of a 4-0 drubbing at the hands of Manchester City last weekend, Jesse Marsch’s men, despite an otherwise solid recent spell of form, sit just two points clear of the bottom three.

Not only that, but Everton below them are in possession of a game in hand, with Leeds’ next two fixtures coming against capital giants Arsenal and Chelsea.

As such, a return to the Championship, just two years on from booking their spot back in the top-flight of English football, could yet be on the cards at Elland Road come the season’s end.

And, should such a fate ultimately befall the Yorkshire outfit, then the club’s loyal fanbase could yet be forced to face up to further heartache upon the opening of the summer transfer window.

This comes amid claims that relegation from the Premier League would trigger reduced release clauses in the contracts of a host of the club’s stars.

As per a report from the Daily Mail, ‘Sportsmail has learned that most of Leeds’ stars will be available for modest fees averaging around £30million if they are relegated.’

This list of players, alarmingly, is understood to feature all of star winger Raphinha, midfield fulcrum Kalvin Phillips, and key goal threat Patrick Bamford.

Arsenal test

Next up for Marsch and co, as alluded to above, comes a showdown with top-4 chasing Arsenal this weekend.

Leeds are set to make the trip to north London on Sunday afternoon, aware that they will be up against it in efforts to get the better of a Gunners outfit brimming with confidence on the back of a trio of successive victories over the course of the last couple of weeks.
