Recently Mexico’s national oil company Pemex was struck with a cyberattack and not a huge amount of money is being demanded by the hackers.
As said by the oil company, hackers are asking for about $5 million and the most interesting part is that the cash is asked in the form of bitcoins which together constitutes about 565 BTC.

This Sunday witnessed the severe cyberattack on the Mexican company Pemex and brought a huge loss to it further forcing it to close all its computers in entire Mexico.

Detected this Sunday, the hack has given a ransom notice to the company and as revealed by the local news channels, it highlighted the “DoppelPaymer” which is among the infamous online ransomware.

DoppelPaymer is already in news due to its infamous case with Chile. recently it was the backbone in hitting Chile’s Agriculture Ministry.

The cyberattack has already crippled many of the assets of the company and it looks as if it is trapped by a ruined foregoing scenario. Due to a huge downfall in oil production, the company is hit by a heavy debt.

Rocio Nahle, Mexico’s energy minister and chair of the Pemex board announced officially the company will not pay the ransom.

He further added that all the branches of the company are still safe now and are still operating without any malware as the cyberattack has hit the Premix headquarters situated in Mexico city and so all other parts are still active.
