2023 Dungeons and Dragons Movie: Honor Among Thieves: The filming locations in breathtaking parts of Northern Ireland

The new Dungeons and Dragons Movie is set to hit our screens with high-packed action and adventure. The film follows a group of thieves who have inadvertently unleashed, “the greatest evil the world has ever known” as they attempt to correct their wrongs and defeat the enemies they have made along the way. 

With an incredibly talented cast from the likes of Chris Pine, Michelle Rodriguez and Bridgerton’s recent upcoming star, Regé-Jean Page, Dungeons and Dragons: Honour Among Thieves is set to be a box office hit that fans will love. 

When does the Dungeons and Dragons movie come out?

Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves will be exclusively premiered in U.K. cinemas on Friday, 31st March 2023. It won’t be available to watch on streaming services until after its theatrical run. 

What is the Dungeons and Dragons movie age rating?

Dungeons and Dragons: Honur Among Thieves has been given a PG-13 age rating due to its scenes of fantasy violence, action and use of profanity. Some scenes depict characters consuming alcohol and for the most part, the bad language used is moderate with the harshest words including, Bi****, Bas**** and Sh**.

Where was The Dunegons and Dragons movie filmed? 

The new Dungeons and Dragons movie was primarily filmed in Northern Ireland, with some establishing shots being taken from the South of Iceland and a few scenes filmed in Surrey, which is just South-East of England. 

The filmography of Ireland just lends itself perfectly to the mystical and magical environment of the D&D world. Some of the scenes look straight out of a fairytale and it’s hard to believe that they are real places you can actually visit and not CGI’d in.

Dún Briste Sea Stack

If you have just watched the trailer, you may have noticed Chris Pine and his team running against the majestic backdrop of the Dún Briste Sea Stack. This layered tower of rock stands at 150 feet tall at Downpatrick Head.

Dún Briste Sea Stack is just on the western coast of Ireland, in North Mayo. It’s a stunning attribute to the rural and rugged beauty of Ireland. If you’re planning a visit to County Mayo, be sure to check out other scenic spots of Achill Island and Westport. 

Titanic Studios 

Titanic Studios Belfast, was used to build a set for the upcoming Dungeons and Dragons Movie, in fact, most of the film was actually shot here. It features in scenes of Neverwinter and when the team are walking through the streets. 

Titanic Studios was the main filming and recording studio for all eight seasons of Games of Thrones, so it’s great that it’s still being used for big Hollywood projects. If you’re visiting Belfast anytime soon, be sure to check out the Titanic Dock before stopping at one of the city’s unique cafes, foodie stalls or hotels.

Foley’s Bridge

Foley’s Bridge features in one of the flashback scenes in the Dungeons and Dragons Movie. The bridge was first built in 1730 and stands as one of the 16 bridges that cross over the Shima River.

Glenarm Castle

The scene at Glenarm Castle is when we first met one of the main protagonists, Forge Fitzwilliam, who is played by Hugh Grant. We also get to see Simon Aumar for the first time, a sorcerer with untapped magical abilities. 

Glenarm Castle serves as the perfect backdrop to the robbery scene. If you happen to be visiting County Antrim anytime soon, you can actually discover over 11 different castles around the County. Some range from big majestic, well-maintained estates and others that stand as ancient ruins of once-ruling castles.

Carrickfergus Castle 

Carrickfergus Castle is seen in lots of different scenes throughout the Dungeons and Dragons movie. The castle itself rests on the shores of Belfast Lough and has stood on its grounds for over 800 years. 

This castle is definitely worth the visit if you’re visiting County Antrim, there is a lot to do in the town of Carrickfergus, including haunted hotels, museums and lots of charming bars and restaurants.

Bourne Wood

The execution scene is set in Bourne Woods, which is located in the South-East city of Surrey, England. This is quite a dramatic scene, with the Druid Doric transforming into the terrifying owl/bear. 

Bourne Woods is an incredibly popular spot for filming locations, having been previously used as a set in The Witcher, Gladiator and The Avengers: Age of Ultron. If you’re visiting Surrey soon, be sure to visit its mystical and wonderful woodlands.

Alnwick Castle Lion Bridge

The Lion Bridge at Alnwick Castle features in the scene when the Red Wizard of Thay meets Sofia on a boat. Alnwick Castle is an impressive 11th-century castle that has maintained much of its original charm and character.
