Driftwood TREES

Pickup 21 pieces of Driftwood on the beach and make some cool beachy décor for your beach cottage!  Don’t be afraid of the drill, because driftwood is EASY to make holes in.

Little pieces are best, from 3-6 inches in length.  You can leave them natural or do a “wash” in your favorite acrylic paint color.

Supplies:  21 pieces of driftwood, (one of the driftwood pieces needs to look like a “top” with width at the bottom)  little pine plaque (4″) , 4 large wood beads, and one 1/4″ Threaded Metal Dowel, hot glue.

Start by drilling three inches into the piece for the top which has to have a thick bottom.  The driftwood is easy to drill the hole.

Next, drill a hole in the center of each piece.  Then sort the pieces from shortest to longest so it will be easy to stack them onto the threaded metal dowel.  To assemble, it is easiest to squirt some hot glue in the tree top piece and insert the metal dowel into the hot glue.  After the hot glue has cooled, you are ready to stack on the pieces starting with the shortest pieces on top.

Drill a hole in the center of the pine plaque and hot glue the large beads for feet.  Insert the threaded metal dowel into the hole letting about an inch extrude.

Then screw on the nut!

Set the tree on it’s feet and turn the driftwood pieces in the order you want them.  After you have turned them into place the tree might be a little wobbly…so use some pliers and turn the nut to be a tight fit.

Driftwood TREES

The trees are OOAK  beachy décor.  It is fun to find the driftwood pieces on the beach and turn the “useless” driftwood into a fun focal point for the hearth, mantle or end table vignette.
