10 x 10 Mixed Media Collage “Look Up”

“For this reason, make every effort to add to your faith goodness; and to goodness,   knowledge.”  We have already talked about faith and goodness, so we are on to knowledge.  I have shared stories: how I learned to hear God’s voice and not to judge others and how I KNOW God’s timing is perfect.   In case you are just “tuning in” here are some facts about “knowledge.”

 GREEK GOODIE

gnosis  (ginṓskō, “experientially know”) – functional (“working”) knowledge gleaned from first-hand (personal) experience, connecting theory to application; “application-knowledge,” gained in (by) a direct relationship. (BibleHub)

So knowledge isn’t about learning, it’s about applying what we know in this wonderful gift of a real life.  We learn stuff from reading THE WORD.  We learn  lessons taught by the Holy Spirit.  It becomes a part of us and we move on to the next thing and we learn that.

Knowledge #4  Look UP, Don’t look around, Don’t look down!

January 1990 my world turned upside down as my 19 year marriage ended I became a single mother.  As I have confessed before, I was the “Queen of Self-Pity”.  Even though I struggled with self pity, I sought the Lord and diligently tried to hear from Him.  We lived 2 blocks from Lake Sacajawea that had beautiful walking paths that stretched a little over 3 miles and I tried to get in a walk every day.  One day I felt I heard the Lord say : “Look up! Don’t look around, Don’t look down.”

So I literally looked up and as my eyes fastened on the sky an airliner (the size of an ant) started a vapor trail.  It was a whimsical serendipity as my heart looked up to the Lord and when I cast my gaze upwards the  vapor trail immediately started.

I had so many struggles those first years of singleness.  Not enough money, the basement flooded, the roof leaked, on and on.  First I would have my “poor me” thoughts as I would start my walk and then it would dawn on me that I was “looking down” and I needed to look up.  I kid you not:  EVERYTIME I remembered that I was supposed to look up … where my eyes fastened on the sky…. an airliner would start a vapor trail.  There were cloudy days where the clouds would part like a donut hole and I would see a vapor trail!  Folks I am not exaggerating it happened at least 100 times!

The Lord knows I am an exceptionally  slow learner, and I wouldn’t expect to see an airline vapor trail when I looked up.  It came as a surprise every time. Those fluffy white trails became rainbows.  They reinforced my dependence on the Lord and I learned to talk to Him about everything.  It bothered me that folks around me seemed to have it so easy.  “Quit looking around”.  It was so easy to be discouraged and “look down.”

I learned to Look UP!  I found that the Lord is my Provider and He wants my attention.  He wants to have a chat.  He always has time.  He knows about our troubles, He wants to swap out our worries for His Peace.

“Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.” John 14:27

So I learned I don’t know why, I don’t know when, I don’t know where, BUT I KNOW WHO!  All because He taught me to LOOK UP and everything will work out in His perfect time and way.

10 x 10 Mixed Media Collage “Look Up”

I made this Mixed Media Collage that has a lot of meaning to me.  The gallery wrapped canvas was covered with a pretty rose print.  There are so many poems and adages about life being a bed of roses.  Huh!  I wish!  LOL

I finally could use this rhinestone airplane that has been around for years!  I don’t need to see vapor trails from airliners anymore.  I have a knee jerk reaction to any problem:  LOOK UP!

I cut the face from a book of face illustrations and decorated it with a pretty garage sale necklace and a crown made with my new favorite product:  ArtEmboss.

Someday we will wear a Crown of Life.  I know many folks have struggles harder to bear than I have.  I encourage you to look to your eternal future and know it will be worth the pain that you can exchange for a crown if you are a follower of Jesus!

“My life is in you Lord, my hope is in you Lord, My strength is in you Lord, in You, it’s in you, it’s in you.”
