Go Fish!

I got these drink coasters at a garage sale last fall and found them yesterday tucked in a drawer.  The colors are soooo inspiring and fun.  Wall hangings sell pretty good at Sunrose Gallery so I was inspired to get a piece of driftwood and play!

I made sections on the driftwood with copper foil tape and painted the sections not worrying about being messy because it is a lot easier to make a mess and cover the foil tape.

Messy me!

The plan was to replicate a school of fish.  There are two ways to provide a way to hang things: screw eyes or loops.  I opted for copper Wire loops.

Cut a 5 inch piece of 16 Gauge Copper Wire and use needle nose pliers to make loops making sure to go in the same direction.

Cut 8 inch pieces of wire to go around the driftwood.  Make a loop on one end and wrap the wire around the driftwood and then hook around the loop end as seen on the left of the photo.

Tuck the wire you made above with the loops in the middle underneath the wire encircling the driftwood and bend the end in a circle.  Do the same to the other end.

Repeat for every section.

Drill a hole in the fish coaster and secure a piece of 16 gauge Copper Wire looping at each end.

I had some old beaded necklaces that I cut at different lengths and hung the fish.  Some pieces of necklace I finished with a large turquoise bead.

I couldn’t resist using a piece of Copper ArtEmboss that I cut in the shape of an arrow.  I embossed the words “GO FISH” and antiqued them with black felt pen.

Lastly, I attached a piece of gold necklace chain for a classy hanger.

ArtWalk is Saturday, so I think I will get this down to Sunrose Gallery first thing tomorrow!  TGIF!
