The Metropolitan Opera fired music director James Levine

The Metropolitan Opera Fired Music director James Levine after an examination found evidence of sexual assault and harassment.

Levine was suspended by the Met in December pending the examination.

The Met states in a Monday statement that its examination discovered Levine “participated in sexually violent and bugging conduct to vulnerable artists in the early stages of their professions.” The company states “it would be difficult and unsuitable for Mr. Levine to continue to work at the Met.”

The 74-year-old Levine had been an imposing figure in the business’s history, judgment over its repertoire, orchestra and vocalists as music or creative director from 1976 up until he stepped down under pressure 2 years earlier.

The Met says declares its management or board had actually covered information of Levine’s conduct were unsubstantiated.
