Brooks Men’s Adrenaline GTS 17 Review

In this Brooks Men’s Adrenaline Gts 17 review you’ see that the character of the shoe has remained more or less the same after it swapped to a midsole that is foam based. Besides the minor updates to the quality of the ride and the upper fit, it has not changed much.

The midsole of the GTS 17 is based on a foundation of triple density foam. It has been able to retain the supportive and firm ride which is the hallmark of the long-lived franchise.

Having said that, there are also other changes which are worth being highlighted. As a result of the minimal changes that have been made to the upper design and the midsole, which has changed the way the shoe fits and how it rides.

For most of the consumers, the change to the upper part is a positive one making it an even better walking shoe. There are a lot of differing opinions concerning the midsole, depending on the personal preference of the user.

There are many long-standing fans to the mid-weight support of the shoe club. As implied by the suffix, the Brooks Men’s Adrenaline GTS 17 has been in existence for 17 long years. It gives the brand names that are similar to Mizuno Inspire 13, Nike Structure 20, etc. indicating that these shoes have spanned for a period longer than a decade.

Material and Design

Brooks Ghost 9 is like a neutral cousin to Adrenaline and it switched its upper to a mesh. The Brooks Men’s Adrenaline GTS 17 refused to follow this trend and instead, stuck to the space mesh as before.

With exception to the small strip of material at the midfoot which is different, all of the outer upper parts have been made from spacer mesh. The midfoot and certain parts of the heel is covered my laminated urethane. Stitching is used on the heel and toe bumper.

There is always a look and feel of premium to Brooks uppers. It is the same with the midfoot molded strips in Adrenaline GTS 17 which gives a visual depth. Detailing like the reflective strip of the heel and top label tongue gives a great touch.

This one has no sleeve to the tongue just like the GTS 15 and 16. This does not affect the structure and design of the shoe in any way. The side tongue loop adds a unique feature peculiar to Brooks that prevent any sliding of the tongue. The flat laces which are slightly elastic us the same as the previous versions of GTS.

Fit and Feel of the Upper

The upper fit and feel of the Brooks Men’s Adrenaline GTS 17 are just the same as its 15 and 16. It offers support and comfort to the padded tongue and synthetic panels. The slide of the tongue stays in place with the help of the side loop.

The toe box and heel have been changed. The lining is made of a single fabric in the heel collar giving it a lower grip. This does not change its quality because it is only less grippy as compared to the GTS 14, 15 and 16.

The GTS 17 is wider and taller at the toe box as compared to the GTS 16. Vertical space is increased in the stitches on the bumper vs. the GTS 16’s narrow design strip. Since the narrow strip in the GTS 16 restricted the movement, this new change in the GTS 17 corrects it. This has resulted in more room for the toe box and a decrease in the level of grip at the heels.

Ride Behavior and Quality

Relatively, the GTS 17 has a softer feel as compared to the 16 because the lasting board is absent. However, comparing it to the benchmark of all running shoes, the quality of the ride is still firm. The GTS is so balanced to the wearer because the three foams used have very similar density levels. The medial post foam will keep up whether at the forefoot or lateral side.

This gives a firm base to the entire midsole. The thick insole gives the softness to the foot. There is no responsiveness to the GTS 17. This is because of the absence of any spring back action.

The inner midsole is comparatively harder than the other parts. The Brooks Men’s Adrenaline GTS 17, however, has done a very commendable job in balancing out the densities of the foam on all sides. Overall, the GTS 17 does well as a shoe support thanks to the midsole which is firm.

The GTS 17 is faster than either the GTS 15 or 16. This is because it does not have a cellulose board in the insole and it is replaced by a foam layer instead.

Overall, the Brooks Men’s Adrenaline GTS 17 has only three changes that are worth mentioning. However, it is this unchanging quality that makes it a popular favorite among most of the runners. After removing the texon board and foam density change, the rearfoot has become softer. Taller and wider toe box and narrower forefoot. The overall weight of the shoe has also changed to 0.4 ounces or 11 grams because of the changes in the structure.
