Mid-November 2018 Free Xbox ‘Games With Gold’

It's the middle of November, and that means two more games have been added to November's Games with Gold roster. Dante's Inferno is a hack and slash affair. You're a Crusader delving into the depths of hell to rescue your beloved. Swing your mighty scythe or blast the demons with your Holy Book while feasting your eyes on all the delights that Hell has to offer. Dante's Inferno is available from Nov 16th to Nov 30th. Race the Sun is the final game for November, and it's hard to quantify into a particular genre. You'll control a solar-powered craft, racing at high speed while avoiding obstacles, all in an effort to get the highest score that you can. Race the Sun will be up until Dec 15th.

If you're late to November's Games with Gold, you can still get Battlefield 1. It's one of the best games of the series, and you'll fight in World War 1, as an infantryman, tank driver, tank gunner, and an airplane pilot, among other roles! It's free to download until November 30th, and the review can be found here.

Race the Sun

Available Nov 16th – Dec 15th

Race the Sun is a game which has you piloting a solar-powered craft as far and as fast as you can before the sun sets, trying to get the best score that you can.

The gameplay mostly revolves around you dodging obstacles and picking up multipliers. Make a mistake, and your multiplier goes down. Make too many mistakes, and you won't get very far at all!

Controlling the craft is as simple as tilting left or right, but you'll need to think and act fast as you'll typically only have a split-second to make adjustments. Occasionally you'll be able to jump over obstacles too.

The graphics are simple and streamlined. You won't be amazed by anything because it's all grey and cube-like – like a prettier version of Tron?

You won't need to use much of your grey matter to play, and this could be a pro or a con depending upon your viewpoint.

You also won't need to invest a lot of time per play session as it's something you can pick up and put down in 10 minute long slots.

There has been a little effort to increase the game's longevity, though. There are a total of 25 achievements to unlock, ranging from easy to impossible and if you're an achievement hunter you might have your work cut out for you here!

You can also level up during play by collecting the blue orbs, and this allows you some extra bonuses like starting with a higher score multiplier, gaining boosters for the ship and being able to store multiple jump-boosts.

There are also different worlds with multiple regions to explore and find, so if this kind of game really fills a niche for you, you might end up playing it a lot.

Dante's Inferno

Available Nov 16th – Nov 30th

Based on Dante's 14th-century poem, you'll be forgiven for thinking that this is just another God of War clone. There are many similarities, from the huge bosses to the descent into Hell as well as many of the game mechanics. If you judge the game based on its own merits, though, you'll find an enjoyable hack 'n slash that will fill the void that Victor Vran leaves after it's no longer available on Nov 16th.

Dante's Inferno is everything you'd expect from a video game based on Hell, and a lot, lot more. The art designers have gone crazy with the amount of effort they've put into the scenery and big monsters. The normal minion mobs don't often have a lot of differences, though, and they just tend to be dark humanoids with claws or wings or some other demonic appendage.

Armed only with Death's scythe and the Holy Cross, you won't be collecting any new weapons at all, but the two items that you do have come with different forms and abilities. Your scythe can morph into a spear, a chain, and several other polearm type weapons while your Holy Cross allows you to do damage from range.

You're either going to love Dante's Inferno and find it engaging, or you're going to be bored really quickly. You should at least play until you've completed the first two rings of Hell because you'll have experienced most of what the game has to offer by then. There are no clever game-changing events – it's the same mantra throughout its entirety and whether you're going to enjoy it or not is entirely based on you!

Give it a try, anyway – what have you got to lose?
