Terrell Morris is an emerging artist from Toronto who places himself in the comfortable nook between introspective hip-hop and neo-soul with his latest Album 'Molasses' which was produced by duo Free n Losh. It's a dream of an album; smooth, mellow and intimate bouncing between jazz, postmodern soul and spoken word over a bed of warm synths.
Terrell Morris says of his new project, "The collaborative album, Molasses, is about a boy realizing who he’s become as a man, and appreciating the simple joys in knowing who that person is – as a lover, an artist, and a product of today’s socio-economic imbalances. My goal for this album was to unlock something new that has yet to be heard, and Free n Losh were the exact team to make that happen. They produced the entire project, while Steph Verschuren (Allan Rayman, Keys n Krates) provided creative supervision."
'OAK', the first single from the album featuring BASECAMP is a seamless blend of tinkling piano over an atmospheric, psychedelic background and subtle hip-hop beat. The music video was directed by Steph Verschuren.
Terrell Morris starts his music with a classic jazz foundation and everything else is layered on top finished with a glistening glaze of glitchy electronica. This concept creates an outstanding music experience which ticks all the boxes.
Terrell describes where he was when he started building ideas for the album, "I was in a heavy phase of self-realization. Realizing my priorities and my character and building on that. And I did that mostly by sorting through the people around me and acknowledging the fact that our actions will ultimately mirror each other. So throughout the album you’ll notice me going back and forth describing myself against someone else - that someone else is a lot of different people. Forming, ending, and sustaining relationships drove most of the content in this album".
